Theater students at UVa-Wise are celebrating the arts on campus with a weekend of events in the Gilliam Center for the Arts.
The Student Theater Festival, a fundraiser to help students attend the Southeastern Theater Conference, begins on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. in the black box theater. It features performances by two local bands performing punk, rock and bluegrass.
After the bands perform, the festival will feature an open mic event. Free coffee, tea and doughnuts will be available.
At 5:45 p.m., “Arabian Nights,” a comedy skit directed by student Logan Patrick, will be performed. At 6 p.m., “Night Mother,” a psychological drama directed by student Jacy Burdette, will be featured.
On Sunday, Dec. 6, “Arabian Nights” will be performed at 4:45 p.m. and “Night Mother” will be featured at 5 p.m., followed by a talk back about suicide prevention and awareness.
Christmas ornaments will be available for purchase for $5. The festival is a culture credit activity. Donations will be accepted at both events. Proceeds go to theater department’s SETC trip.
