UVa-Wise will welcome its alumni and friends on campus as it hosts Homecoming 2017 “The Legacy Lives” on Sept. 22-24, at various locations.
The festivities for student groups take place all week as various teams compete for the Silver Saber Competition, sponsored by the Student Government Association.
Thursday evening, the Pi Kappa Phi alumni chapter is sponsoring a bus trip departing campus with a stop at The Inn at Wise at 5:00 p.m. to Sugar Hill Brewing Company. Alumni and friends are invited to ride the bus to this St. Paul destination.
Homecoming 2017 kicks off on Friday, Sept. 22 with a UVa-Wise Behind the Scenes Tour. Provost Sandy Huguenin will begin the tour at the Jefferson Statue in the Sunken Garden at Crockett Hall at 10:30 a.m. The tour will include a peek at educational work that is going on at UVa-Wise.
The Alumni Mentors Workshop begins at 2 p.m. on the sixth floor of the library. Any alumni interested in mentoring student entrepreneurs are invited to attend an orientation session and workshop.
The Sliver Saber Olympics begins at 4 p.m. on the Intramural Field followed by the Meet the Cavs Pep Rally at 5 p.m.
A Food Truck Rally gets underway on the Intramural Field at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., with music provided by JGreat Entertainment.
Also at 6 p.m., alumni and friends are invited to a reception and celebration honoring the life and legacy of the late Chancellor Emeritus Joseph “Papa Joe” Smiddy. The event takes place in the Leonard W. Sandridge Science Center Atrium.
The Highland Cavaliers volleyball team will play Glenville State beginning at 7 p.m. in the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
The Music Faculty Showcase, featuring a concert showcasing the music faculty, will take place in the Science Center Atrium at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Red & Gray 5K Run/1 Mile Walk, sponsored by the SGA, begins at 8 a.m. at the Prior Center.
Campus tours will be available for the public beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Admissions Office in Crockett Hall. Tours depart at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
The Highland Cavaliers volleyball team will take on West Virginia Wesleyan at 11 a.m. in the Prior Center.
The popular Alumni and Student Picnic begins at 11 a.m. on the Intramural Field. All alumni, parents and students are invited to the event. Special tables will be marked for the 5th, 10th, 20th and 25th reunion classes.
The Highland Cavaliers take on West Liberty University at 1:30 p.m. Admission to the game is free.
