UVa-Wise Cavaliers SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Council) will be holding a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish beginning Wednesday, January 30 at the men’s and women’s basketball game against West Virginia Wesleyan. SAAC will be selling Make-A-Wish stars for $1 each and will also be taking donations. Each Mountain East Conference (MEC) institution’s SAAC raises money every year for Make-A-Wish with all proceeds going directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Last year, the UVa-Wise SAAC raised and donated $1,000 towards Make-A-Wish as it was the highest amount that the SAAC has raised since its inception. SAAC held various fundraising events throughout the year with more than half of the donations collected in the early months of the spring term.

The NCAA Division II SAAC established the partnership with Make-A-Wish in 2003. Over that time, $5.3 million has been raised, which goes towards granting wishes of children life-threatening illnesses. From the NCAA DII contributions only, over 660 wishes have been granted.
