Andrew and Delores Still are UVA Wise Benefactor of the Year
 
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise recently recognized Bristol couple Andrew J. Still and Lois Ann “Delores” Still as Benefactor of the Year for their generosity in establishing two transformational scholarships totaling $3.9 million.
 
The Albert M. Still and Blanche N. Still Scholarship will support graduates of high schools in Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Tazewell and Wise counties and the City of Norton. The Andy and Lois Ann “Delores” Roark Still Scholarship will support students from communities where coal mining has been an economic driver, including Southwest Virginia, eastern Kentucky and northeast Tennessee.
 
UVA Wise Chancellor Donna P. Henry said the Stills are a humble couple who worked hard for their success.
 
“The Stills have made an impact,” Henry noted. “Their contributions to UVA Wise will be incredibly impactful to all of our future generations of students.”
 
The Stills were recognized during the College’s annual Benefactors Celebration.
 
About the Stills
 
Andrew Still, a standout athlete from John I. Burton High, attended Clinch Valley College before graduating from Tusculum College where he was in Who’s Who, and he played basketball. He earned a degree in math and physics and received a master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia on a National Science Foundation scholarship. He worked for Raytheon for 28 years and lived in Saudi Arabia for two years.
 
Delores Still was an entrepreneur at the age of 7 when she convinced her mother and father to let her ask George and Lucille Patrick Wholesale Candy Company to allow her to sell candy. The Patricks agreed and she sold candy to purchase clothes, school supplies and for spending money. She sold candy until she was 18. She studied marketing and retailing at Virginia Intermont College and had a successful career in marketing and sales. She worked 40 hours a week at Monroe Calculating Company on the night shift and eight hours on the weekend for H.P King Company while attending college.she also worked at L.M. Berry Company in telephone sales.
