The University of Virginia’s College at Wise’s Office of Career Discovery and Planning received a $25,000 Grant from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. This funding the office applied for will assist in the development of an institutional vision for experiential learning and a work plan to carry out that vision.
The Institutional Readiness: Internship and Work-Based Learning grant, called Wise and Ready, provides funding to build a task force. This readiness task force will spend 12 months developing a comprehensive work plan and includes the following components:
• The institutional vision
• A description of a structured pathway of increasingly intensive experiential learning opportunities for students that start at orientation and end with students who have skills needed for entry-level roles by the time they graduate
• A description of institutional goals as well as initiatives planned to achieve vision and goals over time
Representation for the task force comes from career services, academic affairs, financial aid, advancement, alumni services, students, employers, and industry advisory councils and panels.
Career Discovery and Planning is part of the College’s Office of Economic Development and Strategic Initiatives.
