The Cavalier Connection, operated by Mountain Empire Transit, will begin service both on campus and off campus beginning Aug. 24 with enhanced health and safety measures in place to hinder the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The popular transit service offers free rides across campus Monday through Friday. Rides to Wise and Norton normally cost 50 cents each way, but MET is operating free of charge at least until Sept. 30 with the possibility of extending the no cost rides for longer during the global pandemic.
Cavalier Connection is also using the enhanced health and safety features used in all the Mountain Empire Transit vehicles during the COVID-19 pandemic. MET contracted with a company to use electrostatic cleansing of all vehicles frequently and drivers with clean throughout the day. A plastic barrier has been placed between the driver and passengers as well. Masks are required for all riders.
Students and employees on campus who want to ride the Cavalier Connection can either call 276-523-RIDE to schedule a pick up or wave at the driver as he or she completes the circuit.
