Are you an aspiring writer in our community?

If you are looking for editing help we recommend you contact a local public library where there are often free writing groups where you can share your work with others and receive feedback in a friendly writing community.

You can also seek the assistance of a paid editor. While we can’t recommend a specific editing service, there are many wonderful professional editors you can find with a quick google search, or by posting a flyer at your local college or book store, who will be happy to work with you (for fees generally starting at $40 an hour and up) in person or online.

We don’t accept or review manuscripts, but we warmly invite you to join us at free writing events and workshops that are held throughout the academic year on campus.

In addition, you can improve your craft by taking any number of wonderful  writing courses that are offered by the Language and Literature Department right here at UVA-Wise. Writing courses are offered almost every semester and can be taken for credit or without credit. View our online course directory.

Also, advanced writers can get excellent feedback and an opportunity to improve their craft at the nearby Hindman Settlement School Writing Workshop.

Email Emily Dotson ead2y@uvawise.edu for information about writing workshops and activities coming soon.
