The Center for Economic Education

The Center for Economic Education

The Center for Economic Education’s mission is to increase economic literacy among K-12 teachers, students and the community, helping individuals in southwest Virginia navigate their financial futures. It is located on the second floor of Smiddy Hall.

Established in 1996, the Center for Economic Education at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is funded by the Virginia Council on Economic Education.

Because the mission of the Center is to heighten economic literacy, a major effort is made to infuse economics into school curriculums. The Center:

  • Provides teacher training programs and workshops focusing on specific economics topics and ways to integrate them into the classroom.
  • Assists local schools in curriculum development, course content and resource materials.
  • Serves as a distribution center for the development and dissemination of resource materials for local schools.
