These unique opportunities allow students a chance to dig into an area of study from every angle, and attain a specialized college minor in the process.
Interdisciplinary Study Programs

Interdisciplinary Studies Major
For students who wish to pursue studies not available under established majors, The University of Virginia’s College at Wise offers the Interdisciplinary Studies Major.

Minor in Appalachian Studies
With this interdisciplinary minor program, students get a full-circle understanding of the Appalachian region by studying its history, culture and future.

Minor in International Studies
This interdisciplinary study program enables students to examine the economics, politics, language and histories of societies beyond their own.

Minor In Leadership Studies
Students in this interdisciplinary minor examine leadership theory and principles, ethical issues related to leadership, multi-cultural perspecitves, historical perspectives, social perspectives, and development of leadership competencies.

Minor In Medieval-Renaissance Studies
This interdisciplinary minor explores the history, literature, art, culture, and language of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, or Early Modern, periods, from the sixth to the mid-seventeenth century.

Minor in Women’s Studies
Students in this interdisciplinary minor explore women’s roles in contemporary culture, as well as challenges that the modern world presents for women.
