We are excited that you will soon be with us for Orientation, a special event for admitted students and their family/guests. During your time with us on campus, you will begin your transition to UVa-Wise, meeting other new students, learning more about campus resources, gaining knowledge of academic expectations and requirements, and registering for your first UVa-Wise classes.
Participation in Orientation will also provide you and your family/guests the opportunity to engage with representatives from across campus to ask questions and take care of a variety of important details.
There are specific Orientation events for freshman students as well as for transfer students.
Freshman Orientation is for those admitted students who are (or will be) recent high school graduates. These students may also have dual-enrollment credit courses, but they have not attended another college/university otherwise.
During Freshman Orientation, there are schedules for both students and their parents/guests. Orientation check-in is at Greear Gymnasium from 8-8:30 am. Sessions throughout the day include: Life in College, Academic Programs, Building Connections, Supporting Your Cavalier, Navigating the Journey, Advising & Registration, and a Closing Reception. All Orientation participants will enjoy lunch in Smith Dining Commons. The sessions portion of the schedule concludes around 3 pm, followed by the opportunity to take care of additional optional items including residence hall tours and conducting business at campus offices which remain open until 5 pm. For planning purposes, plan to be with us from 8 am-5 pm to take full advantage of the available campus resources. Specific event details will be provided in the Orientation confirmation emailed to the student’s UVa-Wise email account in advance of the chosen date.
Freshman Orientation dates for 2019 are: April 12, June 7, June 21 and July 26.
There is a $50 registration for each freshman student, plus $7 per parent/guest member. The registration fee is non-refundable. NOTE: You will be required to use your UVa-Wise email/password to login.
