The campus community at UVA Wise is representative of a variety of cultures and ethnicities. As a community of learners, we seek to appreciate and respect the diverse cultures and backgrounds, including geographic, socioeconomic, sexual orientation, and religion, of our students, faculty and staff.
A diverse setting assists students in gaining an understanding of the value of education and the responsibility of citizenship which is critical to their successful acclimation in an ever-changing and complex world.

- promote campus compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies
- keep the campus community informed of compliance information and resources
- support the coordination of campus compliance activities and a commitment to compliance
- provide updates to the campus community regarding required guidelines and mandates
- promote a campus culture of ethical conduct, mutual respect and inclusiveness
- provide consultation, resources and assistance related to diversity and inclusion

OCI operates the Multicultural Center which aims to promote inclusion and engagement for historically underrepresented students. Some of the Center’s goals are to cultivate all to be equally empowered in their identity, provide culturally-relevant services, and build an understand through dialogue. Please visit the Multicultural Center on the 3rd floor 24/7 side of the Library.
Programming & Education
OCI is also committed to providing education and awareness programs and initiatives for the campus community. OCI coordinates the participation of collaborative partners in many events. We hope that you will participate in one of our numerous events/campaign that we host every semester.
Disability Support Services
Disability Support Services at UVA Wise works to assist all qualified students with disabilities in the pursuit of their educational objectives. We attempt to coordinate the students’ needs with services and resources available within our college system, and to ensure accessible educational opportunities for students according to their individual needs. Our philosophy is that the individuals we serve are students first, and their disabilities are secondary. The Office of International Studies at UVA Wise serves as the focal point for the development, supervision, and coordination of all international programs, activities, and services. Our goal is to promote better understanding of international issues by disseminating information on international opportunities, promoting courses abroad, providing support to international students on campus and developing an international outlook among students and staff. A student organization representing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, questioning/queer, and allied students, staff and faculty of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. We promote and advocate for acceptance of and protection for sexual minority students, as well as for gay rights in general. Membership will remain confidential. Safe Zone is a group of faculty and staff members at UVA Wise who agree to be emphatic and informed about gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender issues on campus. Faculty and staff who display the Safe Zone logo in their offices and/or on their syllabi welcome conversations with any students who have concerns or questions regarding the GLBT population.
