UVa-Wise Resource Information
Safe Zone is a group of faculty and staff members at UVa-Wise who agree to be emphatic and informed about gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender issues on campus. Faculty and staff who display the Safe Zone logo in their offices and/or on their syllabi welcome conversations with any students who have concerns or questions regarding the GLBT population. Counseling Services, a unit of the Center for Student Development in Cantrell Hall, provides short-term counseling that focuses on addressing students’ personal concerns that may hinder current and/or future learning and personal development. Students seek counseling for a variety of reasons which may include, but are not limited to, stress; depression; anxiety; relationship issues; family issues; roommate conflict; grief and loss; LGBT issues; and personal growth.
