The Office of Student Activities is committed to providing leadership opportunities and sponsoring and supporting programs which enhance a sense of community on campus, foster recognition and appreciation of different cultures, and facilitate and nurture a collective sense of purpose.

OUR MISSION
The mission of the Office of Student Activities at UVa-Wise is to support and complement the College’s academic mission and enhance the educational experience of students through exposure to programs and activities that promote intellectual, cultural, social, recreational, and personal growth.  The Office of Student Activities is committed to providing leadership opportunities and sponsoring and supporting programs which enhance a sense of community on campus, foster recognition and appreciation of different cultures, and facilitate and nurture a collective sense of purpose.  We strive to assist students in developing an appreciation for diversity, accountability for self learning, and the critical thinking and pragmatic skills necessary to become life long learners and knowledgeable and responsible citizens of our global community.

The Student Activities Board (SAB) is comprised of a select group of students who plan and host student activities events on campus. Events range from hypnotists and comedians, to musicians and novelty programs, including Massage Days, Make Your Own Street Sign, National Food Days, the annual CAVAPALOOZA Carnival and more.

ABOUTSAB logo
The Office of Student Activities, along with the Student Activities Board, provides a variety of opportunities for students to be entertained on campus and get involved. A variety of events and activities are hosted throughout the semester to engage students outside the classroom. All events hosted by the Office of Student Activities and Student Activities Board are free unless otherwise noted. Student input is valued as part of the entertainment program and students are encouraged to join the Student Activities Board where they can choose, plan, and host events and programs for their fellow students.


ACTIVITIES & EVENTS

Activities and events range throughout the school year and have included novelty programs, including Make Your Own Street Sign, Laser Tag, Glow Light Putt Putt, Massages & Relaxation Chairs, free t-shirts, and more. Several homegrown events are sponsored by the Student Activities Board and include the Lawn Bash, Price is Right Gameshow, Grocery Bingo, and the annual carnival event “CAVAPALOOZA” which is co-sponsored with the Student Government Association and Intramural Sports program.

SAB MEETINGS ARE HELD ON THE FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH @ 6pm on the fifth floor of the Student Center!

Interested in becoming a member?
Students apply each year to be members of the Student Activities Board through an application and interview process with the Director of Student Activities and the President of the Student Activities Board. All students are invited to attend monthly meetings and give their input about events.  Members must show an active commitment to the Student Activities Board Mission Statement as well as the mission statement of the College. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Student Activities Board should come to the interest meetings at the beginning of the fall semester to learn more about the organization and how to apply or contact Nathan Rasnake, Assistant Director of Student Leadership & Greek Life.
