Giving Thanks Day
The Seventh Annual UVA Wise Giving Thanks Day will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8, to provide students an opportunity to show appreciation of the many supporters who provide contributions each year. The event will be held in the 5th Floor Books & Brew area of the Library from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m..
The event allows UVA Wise and its students to demonstrate to donors the impact of their gift, said Valerie Lawson. This event is especially helpful to scholarship recipients to let their donors know how much they appreciate the scholarship support. It also provides the campus community a time and place to write notes while staff members are on hand to answer questions about the generosity behind the gifts that support scholarships, academic programs, athletics and the greatest needs at the College.
“Our students provide the critical link between the College and its donors in conveying how private support makes a huge difference in the UVA Wise educational experience,” Lawson said.
Each student benefits from private support while the benefits may often be subtle. For instance, the private support behind the Smith Dining Commons essentially provided the equivalent of a scholarship for each student over a 10 year period. Similarly, operational support enables the College to keep tuition as low as possible.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate as well. For more information, please contact the Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement at 276.376.4523.
