Athletic Support

Athletic Support

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Highland Cavaliers represent the college well in the courts, fields, and in the classroom. Because UVA Wise is committed to supporting the overall development of the student-athlete, academics is a top priority and scholarships play a critical role. “UVA Wise is very proud of our ability to educate students and allow them to graduate with the least debt of any public liberal arts college, this includes our student-athletes. Your support of UVA Wise athletes makes all of this possible,” said UVA Wise athletic director Kendall Rainey.

As UVA Wise continues to grow as a member of NCAA Division II, the support of our alumni, friends, fans and donors is more important than ever. UVA Wise fully supports the NCAA Division II “Life in the Balance” platform, which emphasizes academics, community involvement and engagement, as well as athletic participation. Our student-athletes are leaders on and off the court and field, and in the community, your support makes all this possible. We have include a guide to NCAA regulations for alumni, donors and friends and you may access by clicking the image below.

The department of athletics is thankful for the support and help from everyone who was involved in our past success and to all that have laid the foundation for our future.

Rainey added, “Your continued support will allow UVA Wise to maintain and improve our facilities, and scholarship opportunities, all of which greatly improves the experiences for our student-athletes.”

Make a Gift

Annual Fund check presentation

You can play a key role in the continued success of the UVA Wise athletic program by making an annual gift.  Because we know it is more meaningful to give to a sport for which you have a passion, you may designate your gift to any of our athletic teams including:

Every gift – no matter the amount – can make a huge difference to our athletic teams which operate on a shoestring budget.  Annual gifts support the operating expenses for equipment (such as balls – basketballs, baseballs, softballs, tennis balls, and volleyballs), uniforms, travel expenses and scholarship funds for needy and deserving student athletes.  The athletic program also supports ongoing special projects, such as athletic scholarships that promote student success as well as sponsorship opportunities for businesses to reach a broader base of customers.

CarrollDaleCarroll Dale, former NFL Green Bay Packer, continues to play a key role in athletic development. He said, “I have a passion for UVA Wise and am delighted to play a role in the growth of the athletic program.” Dale says the biggest challenge in communicating to alumni and friends is the misconception that athletics is supported by state funds.  “Many people do not realize that state-supported colleges and universities in Virginia are not allowed to use tuition dollars to fund athletics.” He added, “every gift makes a difference!” Although Dale has officially retired from UVA Wise, he continues to raise funds for the athletic program.

You can make a gift in several different ways. Choose the option that is most convenient for you.
