Making a Planned Gift

Planned gifts include bequests, gifts of life insurance and retirement plans, and other contributions made through a donor’s estate. Many planned giving options allow donors and their loved ones to receive income during their lifetimes from assets that will eventually benefit the college. These life-income gifts deserve special consideration when making financial and estate plans.

A Legacy for UVA-Wise. More Life Income for You.

Announcing Higher Gift Annuity Rates

A charitable gift annuity is a “life income” legacy gift that provides you or your beneficiaries with a fixed income stream for life, while benefitting an area where you have a strong passion in supporting at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. For the first time since 2012, the American Council on Gift Annuities has increased its suggested maximum annuity rates for beneficiaries of all ages.  A gift annuity provides a tax-deductible gift and income for life! For demonstration purposes, a few are listed below:

  • Age 55, 4.3%
  • Age 70, 5.6%
  • Age 85, 8.3%

If you don’t need the income now, a deferred charitable gift annuity may be attractive as rates have increased by even larger margins. A few examples for demonstration purposes are listed below:

  • Currently Age 50 deferring income until you are Age 55, 5.2%
  • Currently Age 60 deferring income until you are Age 65, 6.10%
  • Currently Age 70 deferring income until you are Age 75, 7.40%
  • Currently Age 70 deferring income until you are Age 80, 10.5%

The new dual-life charitable annuity rates reflect similar percentage increases. UVa-Wise is able to offer gift annuities through The University of Virginia Foundation for residents of most states already and will soon do so for the first time in New Jersey, New York, Washington, and California!
