Strategic Planning

Having successfully completed E2020, the previous Strategic Plan of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Chancellor Henry and the senior staff are now turning their attention to developing a new strategic plan for UVA Wise. A cross-campus Strategic Planning Committee has been formed, and will collect data to identify the College’s current identity, evaluate strategic options for the future, and envision the future of UVA Wise.

TIMELINE

The Committee’s plans to share their initial findings and strategy with College Advisory Board and Board of Visitors in August and September, and finalize the Plan for approval at College Board and Board of Visitor meetings in November and December.

Phase I began in June 2020 and focuses on developing a timeline for strategic planning work as well as information gathering. The Committee has:

  • Conducted a survey on the viability of and interest surrounding new programming options with prospective students;
  • Contributed existing data around student academic success and outcomes; and
  • Defined additional data collection they wish to complete.

In July and August, the Committee will:

  • Engage additional stakeholders for feedback and input.

Phase 2 will begin in August 2020, when the Committee will identify themes for our new Strategic Plan, evolving or rewriting the Mission and Vision of the College. A draft of Mission, Vision, and themes will be shared with the campus community as we enter fall.

Phase 3 will take place beginning in later August or September, and include the establishment of Strategic Pillars, Goals, and Outcomes.

Phase 4 will include the drafting of the new Strategic Plan, which will take place in late September and early October 2020.

Members of the steering committee represent specific disciplines and have unique vantage points. While each member will bring diverse perspectives to the table, the committee is tasked with representing UVA Wise’s best interests as a whole, serving as stewards of the College’s academic mission. The steering committee will collate and consider input from all areas of the College as the group carries out its tasks during the planning process.
