How is UVA Health and the UVA Health and Wellness for UVA Wise Students and Employees involved in planning and response?
The UVA Wise Student & Employee Health Clinic is now open part-time. Their hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 8am – 5pm and Thursday, 8am – 12pm. We ask that anyone interested in being seen at the clinic call first (276-376-3475) for initial observation.

What safety measures will UVA Wise be taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19?
UVA Wise will follow the Higher Education Reopening Guidance report published by the Virginia Department of Health including, but not limited to:

  • Reduced capacity in classrooms to ensure physical distancing
  • Use of face coverings
  • Enhanced cleaning and sanitization of campus spaces
  • Promotion of good hygiene and social distancing best practices

The College is also monitoring best practices for Colleges, Universities, and Institutions of Higher Learning as established by the Centers for Disease Control and will be implementing many measures to heighten safety as fall approaches.

Are face coverings required on campus?
Yes, as we prepare for the start of the semester, it is vital we do everything possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to students and fellow employees.  The University’s mask policy applies to Wise and requires that all students, faculty, staff, and contractors must wear masks at all times when they are inside, except when they are alone (or with their roommates) and in their private spaces (e.g., dorm rooms, apartments, or individual offices). When they are outside, they must wear a mask when they cannot maintain a physical distance of at least six feet.  Please see the full policy for exceptions to this requirement.

How many COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed in Wise County ?
The Virginia Department of Health provides daily updates about cases across Virginia and in every region and locality of the Commonwealth. UVA Wise continues to urge all members of the community to stay at home and follow social distancing practices to keep themselves and others safe

How will dining services differ from previous academic years?
Smith Dining Commons is open for students and employees who wish to enjoy the all you care to eat experience in accordance with Governor Northam’s Executive Order 63. All retail dining locations are open and available to students, faculty, and staff with expanded options for take-out and socially distanced seating, with the exception of Chic-Fil-A, which is takeout only. Please visit the Dining Services Website for up-to-date information.
