The Department of Nursing offers a program of study leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN). This program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The nursing major has two tracks: Pre-Licensure and RN to BSN. Upon completion of the Liberal Arts Core courses and the required nursing courses, the student will have accrued a total of 126 hours (Pre-Licensure) or 120-122 hours (RN to BSN) for graduation. The Pre-Licensure Program is for students who wish to earn a BSN and take the registered nurse licensure examination, the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Once admitted to the nursing major, students in the Pre-Licensure Program must enroll full-time. The RN to BSN Program is a program for registered nurses who have either a diploma or an associate degree in nursing. The RN to BSN Program has been specifically designed for the working registered nurse student. The courses in the RN-BSN major are all online. The optional minor in Leadership Studies will provide the registered nurse with the skills and knowledge necessary for coordinating and managing patient care in complex health situations in health care facilities and in the community. The curriculum is also intended to prepare the registered nurse for graduate studies for advanced practice nursing. Key Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Chair of the Department of Nursing is an integral member of the Council of Chairs. The Chair is responsible for the budget, curriculum, faculty and student scholarship, and teaching excellence for the Department of Nursing. Successful candidates should have a vision for program growth and for nursing and health care in a rural area. UVa-Wise is currently considering the expansion of nursing curriculum at the graduate level to support local needs. Additionally, planning is underway for the renovation of Wiley Hall, which will accommodate an expanded nursing program. The Chair and nursing faculty collaborate with area health care agencies for enhanced learning and health care quality. Qualifications: It is required applicants hold a doctorate in a nursing discipline and RN licensure or eligibility in Virginia. In addition, it is preferred that applicants possess: Experience in academic administration; Understanding and knowledge surrounding the mentoring of new faculty;  Extensive teaching experience in a College/University nursing setting; An in-depth understanding of the CCNE accreditation process;  A willingness to interact key hospitals and health partners outside of UVa-Wise; Background in curriculum development and assessment; A track record of grant writing; Strong skills surrounding student recruitment; and Financial and budgetary management skills. Assistant Professor in Environmental Geology
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is a nationally ranked four-year public liberal arts college located in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. The UVa-Wise Department of Natural Sciences is currently inviting applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in environmental geology starting Fall 2020. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in physical geology, hydrogeology, and soil & land restoration, along with additional courses as required for a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. As with all tenure track positions, independent research in the candidate’s field and college service are required. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in geology or a related field. Instructor of Mathematics/Academic Support Coordinator
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia, is a nationally ranked four-year public liberal arts college located in the scenic mountains of southwestern Virginia and invites applications for a full-time Instructor/Academic Support Coordinator.  This position will provide instructional and academic support services to freshman students enrolled in selected lower division Math and Computer Science courses.  Duties will include teaching and working with students in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science to help ensure student success.  Specific duties include teaching 6 credit hours per semester with release time to perform the following: conducting one-on-one meetings with students; hiring, managing, scheduling, tracking, and marketing of the Drop-In Tutoring for the department; assisting with curriculum development; managing the mathematics placement process for the department; collecting and reporting data on student success for assessment purposes, etc.; and other duties as determined by the department chair. Required credentials include a Master’s degree in Mathematics, excellent communication skills, and a desire to work with students for success.
