Student Success

Based on data gathered over the last three years, students who have succeeded in introductory math classes have demonstrated the ability to manipulate and analyze quantitative data, as measured across three categories: conceptual understanding, problem solving strategy, and communication. In each category, those students exceeded targets set to measure competence and high-competence, scoring highest in the conceptual understanding category.

Students in Math 1050-Applications of Mathematics, which was designed specifically to help students develop these abilities, often score highest across the categories, an indication of the course’s value to students who are not required to take skills-specific math courses.
