Inaugural Class Graduates of 2019
SWVA Rise 2019
About the Program
The SWVA Rise Emerging Leadership Program brings together a diverse group of Emerging Leaders throughout the Southwest Virginia region to participate in a six-month learning experience of the region’s assets and challenges. The focus of the program is to educate the region’s emerging leaders on the value of collaboration, relationship building, critical conversations, and strategic thinking.
The experience includes leadership development customized to equip leaders to become active and effective members of organizations, working groups, local, and regional boards in order to position the region for economic growth.
The program resulted from a series of community surveys and focus groups, which indicated that strengthening leadership capacity within the region was critical to the growth and diversification of Southwest Virginia’s future.
SWVA Rise is a program of Opportunity SWVA and The University of Virginia’s College at Wise and is funded through a grant awarded by the Appalachian Regional Commission.
