Where is UVa-Wise?

UVa-Wise is in the town of Wise, Virginia, in the southwest corner of the state. It is accessible by car from Highway 23. Enter the following address in your GPS:

The nearest airport is Tri-Cities Airport in Blountville, Tennessee.

Where do I park?

Visitor parking is conveniently located in the boulevard between Crockett and Smiddy Hall. Visitor parking is also available in the McCraray Hall lot and is located nearest to Crockett Hall. View Campus Map.

The Best Western is five minutes from campus. The hotels in Norton are approximately 10 minutes away, the Comfort Inn is approximately 20 minutes away and the Western Front Hotel is approximately 30 minutes away

What else can I do in Wise?

Wise may be small, but it’s packed with nature, history, food and music. Many of our students enjoy hiking, hunting and fishing in the area as well as biking, canoeing and camping. There’s also a civil war battle site you can visit and plenty of coffee shops and boutiques to explore. Learn more about Wise, VA.

How should I dress?

Wear casual clothes and shoes that are comfortable for walking. If you’re visiting during the summer months, you may want to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. Wise weather changes rapidly, so be sure to check the forecast before you pack.

What will the weather be like?

The weather changes rapidly in Wise. We check the forecast regularly to stay prepared for the unpredictable mountain weather and encourage you to do the same. Bring lots of layers.

When do I let you know I’m coming?

We only need one week’s notice. Schedule your visit by using the online form.

Can I sit in on classes?

Absolutely. We can tailor your visit any way that you desire. Please let us know what you would like to do while here and we’ll put together a great visit for you.

Is it okay to bring a friend?

Sure. Many prospective students find that visiting campus with a friend makes the trip more comfortable and fun.

What about parents?

Most prospective students visit campus with at least one parent. Family members are always welcome.
