Transfer Students from Virginia Community Colleges and Richard Bland College
Transfer applicants from a Virginia Community College or Richard Bland College who have earned an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts and Sciences degree based on a baccalaureate-oriented sequence of courses are guaranteed admission to UVa-Wise within the limits outlined above. Admission to the College does not necessarily guarantee admission to any of the various majors or programs within the College. UVa-Wise adheres to the State Policy on Transfer.
Students who have earned an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts and Sciences degree based on a baccalaureate-oriented sequence of courses from a public Virginia Community College and are participants in the Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP) will have met the lower division general education requirements of UVa-Wise except for six semester hours of foreign language. These students will be classified as juniors, and will be given preference in the admissions process.
Transfer students from a Virginia Community College and Richard Bland College who have completed the state-approved Transfer Module but who have not earned an associate degree will receive 35 hours of credit for these courses and will have met the general education requirements for English composition, humanities, western heritage, and natural science. They will have partially met the lower division general education requirements in social science and mathematics. They will not necessarily have met the lower division general education requirements in literature, physical education, foreign language, or the arts. Students who complete the transfer module will be given preference in the admissions process.
General Education Requirements
Transfer students from Mountain Empire, Southwest Virginia, or Virginia Highlands Community Colleges should inquire about the Guaranteed Admissions Program (GAP). GAP allows students from these three colleges to declare their intentions of attending UVa-Wise early in their study at the community college. GAP students will receive special assistance from community college officials and UVa-Wise representatives in planning their academic programs to ease the transition to UVa-Wise upon completion of their associate degrees. Students participating in the GAP are not required to submit an application fee to UVa-Wise. Interested students should contact UVa-Wise or their community college advisor for details.
