UVA Wise Launches Master of Science in Technology Management and Data Analytics for Fall 2026

The University of Virginia's College at Wise (UVA Wise) will expand its graduate offerings this fall with the launch of the Master of Science in Technology Management and Data Analytics, a fully online, interdisciplinary master's degree offered by the Department of Business and Economics designed to prepare graduates to lead in today's technology-driven, data-rich economy.

The new 30-credit-hour, non-thesis graduate program combines advanced study in technology management, finance and financial technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), business strategy and responsible technology governance. With flexible full-time and part-time enrollment options and both fall and spring start dates, the program is designed to meet the needs of students and working professionals while preparing graduates for leadership roles across industries.

“This degree brings together the skills organizations increasingly need. Our goal is to prepare graduates to understand emerging technologies, use them responsibly, solve real organizational challenges and drive meaningful change. We are excited to offer this opportunity to students who want to build on their education and position themselves for success in a rapidly changing, technology driven economy,” said Gurkan Akalin, professor of business analytics, chair of the business and economics department, and executive director of the Institute for Applied Data Analytics. 

Students in the program will develop expertise in:

  • Technology Management
  • Business Analytics and Data Analytics
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Finance and Financial Technology
  • Strategic Decision-Making
  • Responsible Technology Governance

The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning through real-world datasets, case studies and applied projects. Students will build competencies in data science, visualization, financial technology, information technology management and AI before completing a capstone experience that integrates analytics, strategy, governance and professional communication.

The degree requires 30 graduate credit hours, including eight core courses and two graduate electives that allow students to tailor their studies to career interests. Elective options include healthcare analytics, marketing analytics, accounting analytics, human resource analytics, supply chain and logistics management, project management, advanced AI models, big data management, internships and special topics in technology and analytics.

The fully online, asynchronous format allows students to complete coursework on a schedule that fits their personal and professional commitments while maintaining the academic rigor and faculty engagement that define a UVA Wise education.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (or international equivalent), have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and have completed coursework in statistics and computer programming. Students who have not completed the prerequisite coursework may be eligible for conditional admission with an individualized preparatory program.

Need-based and other financial aid may be available to help students complete their degree. To be considered for Virginia state aid and federal student loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A limited number of Bill Gatton Technology & Data Analytics Scholarships may be available to support eligible students.
