They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but a UVA Wise professor is proving that adage wrong for a great cause: help shelter dogs get their forever homes.

The annual event gives students the opportunity to compete to become leader of the College for one day, while UVA Wise Chancellor Donna P. Henry takes their place, attending their classes and assuming their schedule.

Small businesses, from start-ups to the well-established, can now receive no-cost digital skills training and resources as part of a new economic development partnership with Downtown Wytheville, Main Street America and Grow with Google.

DeAndra (Dee) Thacker Ayers, owner of Lynette Boutique, and Unique Sneaks founder Hayden Sharitt will share their journeys creating successful businesses Monday, April 24, as part of an entrepreneur lecture series at UVA Wise.

Based upon a series of twisted folktales by Oliver Lansley, “The Terrible Infants” is a fantastic spectacle blending puppetry, live music, storytelling, and clowning into a highly sensory theatrical feast suitable for big kids and small grown-ups.

Isabella Maggard of Pound, Va., a student of UVA Wise, won a prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. A first-generation college student majoring in environmental science, Maggard will graduate from UVA Wise May 2024.

UVA Wise welcomes guest lecturer Michael Peterson, Ph.D., to present “Why Does God Allow Suffering and Evil?” on Thursday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Science Center Auditorium.

Students, faculty and staff can select from a wide variety of ways to improve their community from making blankets for pets, helping families in crisis or cleaning up the campus and surrounding community.
