Master Sergeant (MSG) Louis Scharf hails from Chamberlain, SD and chose a life of travel and adventure leading him to serve as the Senior Military Science Instructor at East Tennessee State university and two extension units located in Tennessee and Virginia. He is married to his supportive and amazing wife AnnMarie Scharf together they raise three children.
MSG Scharf entered military service on 21 July 2005, where he attended One Station Unit Training at Foxtrot Co., 1-329th Infantry at Fort Benning, Georgia. Since then, MSG Scharf has served numerous leadership positions including Infantry Team Leader, Infantry Squad Leader, Section Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant and First Sergeant. MSG Scharf has served with the following units: A CO, 1st BN 18th INF, Conns Barracks, Schweinfurt, DE, A CO, 1st BN, 2nd INF, Grafenhwoer, DE, A CO, 3rd BN, 69th AR, Fort Benning, GA, C CO, 2nd BN, 13th INF, Fort Jackson, SC, 2nd BN, 327 INF (multiple companies), Fort Campbell, KY, HQ JRTC, C Co. 1-12 IN, and Comanche Company, 1-12 IN BN out of Fort Carson, CO. MSG Scharf has done three combat deployments totally over 36 months of combat during his military career, two in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and one to Syria in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. MSG Scharf has also conducted one rotation to Korea and one rotation in support of the defense of the southern border.
MSG Scharf’s awards include Meritorious Service Medal with 3 bronze oak leaf, Army Commendation Medal with 1 silver and 1 bronze oak leaf, Army Achievement Medal with 2 oak leaf, Good Conduct Medal with 7 knots. Iraq Campaign Medal with 3 campaign stars, Inherent Resolve Medal with 1 campaign star, Korea Defense Service Medal, Mexican Border Defense Medal. He has earned the Combat and Expert Infantryman’s, and the Master Combat Infantryman’s badges. MSG Scharf has earned the Drivers and Mechanic Badges for tracked vehicles, Master Gunner Identifications Badge, and Inspector General Identification Badge. MSG Scharf also holds a Bachelors in Business Administrations Degree.
