Notice of Non-Discrimination

The University of Virginia's College at Wise does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, marital status, military status (which includes active duty service members, reserve service members, and dependents), national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, pregnancy (including childbirth and related conditions), race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, and family medical or genetic information, in its programs and activities as required by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, The Age Discrimination Act of 1975, the Governor’s Executive Order Number One (2018), and other applicable statutes and College policies. UVA Wise prohibits sexual and gender-based harassment, including sexual assault, and other forms of interpersonal violence.

Definitions:

Discrimination: Inequitable treatment by the College of a person based on one or more of that person’s protected characteristics or statuses, excepting any treatment permitted or required by law.

Harassment: Unwelcome conduct directed against a person based on one or more of that person’s protected characteristics or statuses, which conduct is so severe or pervasive that it interferes with an individual’s employment, academic performance or participation in College programs or activities, and creates a working, learning, program or activity environment that a reasonable person would find intimidating, hostile or offensive.

Retaliation: Reprisal, interference, restraint, penalty, discrimination, intimidation or harassment, determined in accordance with applicable legal standards.

Individuals, including UVA Wise students, employees, and participants in UVA Wise’s programs or activities, may be entitled to reasonable accommodations or modifications for a disability. Any members of the College community who feel that they have been subjected to discrimination, including harassment, in violation of the College's non-discrimination and equal opportunity policy statement may be submitted to the Human Resource Office, 276-328-0240, or the Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, 276-376-3451.
