Assistant Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The position is a full-time, 9-month commitment at the assistant professor level with a start date of August 2023. The position is housed within the Department of Business and Economics.

This position in Hospitality and Tourism Management is new at UVA Wise, offering an opportunity for someone who is innovative and entrepreneurial to develop a concentration, eventually a major, in Hospitality and Tourism. We seek a person with the academic background to build such a program, but also who has experience working with business and industry partners in the hospitality/tourism/event management sector to create internships and other experiential learning opportunities for students.

HVAC Mechanic
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVA Wise) would like to invite applications for the position of HVAC Mechanic.  The Facilities Management Department seeks a qualified candidate who has the experience and knowledge to provide service to a wide range of projects on campus.  This full-time position will work in conjunction with other department personnel to ensure the proper installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of all HVAC equipment at different locations across campus or any UVA Wise properties. 

Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics or Statistics

Program Support Specialist Wise Works
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise invites applications for the position of Program Support Specialist. This role serves as the initial point of contact for inquiries about the WISEWORKS Program and programs and services offered by the Office of Career Discovery and Planning.

Duties of position:

  • Answer phones, greet visitors, and assist in scheduling appointments for the WISEWORKS Program and the Office of Career Discovery and Planning
  • Manage employer and student intake documentation; organize records and files using Excel, Handshake, and other technology
  • Maintain a database of students and employers participating in the WISEWORKS Program

Assistant Professor of Data Science or Data Analytics
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions in a new Data Analytics program. The positions are full-time, 9-month commitments at the assistant professor level with a start date of August 2023.

Emmett F. and N. Alys Low Endowed Chair Professorship in Physics

The position is a 9-month tenure appointment at the associate or full professor level, depending on the experience and accomplishments of the candidate. The start date is August 2023.

Applicants must have an exemplary history of teaching at the undergraduate level and a demonstrated commitment to the promotion of science education. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the college’s teacher training program and in outreach to public schools. Assistant Professor of Biology
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in molecular biology. The position is a 9-month tenure-track position at the assistant professor level with a start date of August 2023.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a two-semester sequence of introductory biology lectures and laboratories for majors, a sophomore level course in cell biology, a sophomore level course in laboratory methods as well as additional upper level courses in their field of expertise.

Assistant Professor of Environmental Science
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in environmental science. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in geography, meteorology/climatology, and/or environmental health, along with additional courses as required for a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. Proficiencies in GIS and remote sensing applications are preferable.

Chair of the Department of Business and Economics
UVA Wise invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Business and Economics. The Chair is a 12-month tenured position, responsible for the supervision, administration, and leadership of programs in Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics. This position represents a transformative opportunity to shape the future of the Department along with the College. The College recently adopted a new strategic plan built around five strategic pillars that will help the College strengthen its core curriculum; align mission, demand, and regional need; invest in faculty and staff recruitment and retention; attract, engage, and retain students; and update systems, policies, and processes at UVA Wise. The Chair of the Business and Economics Department is one of ten chairs from departments across the College that make up its Council of Chairs and who report directly to the Provost. Executive Director of the Institute for Applied Data Analytics
UVA Wise invites nominations and applications for the position of Executive Director of the Institute for Applied Data Analytics. Working with faculty across disciplines, the Executive Director will be responsible for setting strategic, operational, and financial direction for the Institute for Data Analytics. UVA Wise seeks a dynamic leader who will work in concert with faculty, staff, and students to promote a culture of collaboration.

This position is a 12-month faculty position with administrative responsibility. The initial academic appointment will be in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. As the Executive Director of the Institute, this individual will work closely with the provost and other senior administrators to determine the needs of the region and the college with regard to data analytics consultation services.

Assistant Director of Transfer & International Admission
The University of Virginia's College at Wise, a public four-liberal arts college located in the mountains of southwestern Virginia invites applications for an Assistant Director of Transfer & International Admissions. The primary responsibilities of this position include coordinating and overseeing the admissions process of international, transfer, and AIMS Students; recruiting appropriate students to UVA Wise; representing the College to external constituencies; counseling prospective students and families; reviewing applications; and contributing to the effective operation of the Admissions Office.

Assistant Professor in Psychology
As part of the Social Sciences Department, the tenure-track faculty position specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. Applicants will be expected to teach core courses in psychology including but not limited to introduction to psychology, counseling theory, counseling practicum, and upper-level courses in the applicant’s field of expertise. Ability to supervise undergraduate internships is essential.

Assistant Professor in Sociology
As part of the Social Sciences Department, the tenure-track faculty position specialization is open, but preference will be given to an individual with a strong generalist foundation in core sociological courses who has teaching experience and evidence of early scholarship. This position will support the core offerings within the Sociology major specifically as well as other social science programs including but not limited to Introductory Sociology, Race and Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality, Stratification and Inequality, Community and Social Change, and Complex Organizations, among other optional social science courses. Opportunities will be given to teach one or more courses within the applicant’s specialization area on a regular basis; however, the focus of this position remains on the core of the major and related interdisciplinary needs of the Department of Social Sciences.

Program Coordinator

Academic Data Strategy Analyst
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (located in Wise, Virginia), seeks a full time Academic Data Strategy Analyst to support the work of the Institutional Research and Academic Affairs divisions.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of statistical tools to interpret large data sets, paying particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts.
  • Preparation of reports for executive leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data.
  • Oversight of data collection that assists the organization to make better data-informed decisions. 
  • Responsibility for reporting outputs and data visualization (dashboards).

Childcare Center Program Director

The campus is equipped with a mix of Apple and PC based instructional technology.

This position will provide faculty with course design support and coaching in creating effective and engaging learning environments informed by desired learning outcomes and a deep understanding of learning methodologies (e.g. ADDIE, Bloom's Learning Taxonomy, etc.); design, develop, and share learning content using a wide array of learning technologies in the development of course materials; collaborate, assist, develop, and participate in the facilitation of professional development workshops and symposia, particularly with regard to course design, online teaching, training materials, and technology-enhanced instruction; and other duties as assigned.

Director of Academic Success
The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for a Director of Academic Success. This position will report directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.  The Director will manage the creation of a new Academic Success Center as a major expansion of Student Support Services on campus.  The Director will be a student-facing member of the Academic Success Center and will coordinate the efforts of a diverse team of academic intervention specialists. 

Admissions Counselor
The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for an Admissions Counselor.  Responsibilities include student recruitment; attending college recruitment fairs; visits to high schools; initial review of student admissions applications; communication with schools, students, and parents; and assistance in the planning and implementation of recruitment and other admissions activities and special projects.  Extensive overnight travel throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and other states as assigned is required, as well as some evening and weekend work.
