Napoleon Hill Day

October 26, 2026
11:00 am
David J. Prior Convocation Center
International speaker, author, and executive coach Johnnie Lloyd will be the featured speaker for Napoleon Hill Day on Monday, October 26, 2026 at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. The lecture begins at 11 a.m. in the David J. Prior Convocation Center, located at 437 Stadium Drive in Wise. Presented by the Napoleon Hill Foundation®, the event honors Hill’s legacy and the continuing relevance of his philosophy of personal achievement. Lloyd’s work connects these enduring principles with the decisions, challenges, and opportunities facing today’s students, professionals, and community leaders. Known as “The Mindset Maven™,” Lloyd helps individuals and organizations examine how identity influences choices, leadership, and the pursuit of meaningful goals. She is the creator of Identity First™, a body of work that encourages people to move beyond definitions shaped by circumstances, titles, expectations, and past experiences, and to make decisions aligned with their purpose and future. Lloyd brings more than four decades of leadership, financial, organizational, and entrepreneurial experience to her work. Her background includes executive leadership, international assignments, organizational development, and fiduciary responsibility for billions of dollars in public resources. She is a Certified Napoleon Hill Foundation Instructor and an executive leadership advisor whose approach emphasizes practical application and sustainable personal growth. Napoleon Hill Day offers an opportunity to explore how purposeful thinking, belief, persistence, and personal responsibility can guide achievement and service. Lloyd’s emphasis on identity and intentional decision-making brings a contemporary perspective to that conversation.

Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience

October 29, 2026
7:00 pm
Lawn by the Lake
Grammy-winner Terrance Simien takes audiences on a multicultural tour of the world inspired the many countries which have informed his musical language. He creates a hypnotic blend of New Orleans funk-reggae-flavored-world-blues-American zydeco roots music that beckons you to your feet and into the groove. Leading his Zydeco Experience band, Simien has become one of the most respected and accomplished artists in American roots music today. Terrance and his loyal and skilled band mates have shared studio & stage with Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder, Los Lobos, Taj Mahal, Dr. John, the Meters, Alan Toussaint, Paul Simon and Dave Matthews Band among others. Simien's family is documented in history books as one of the first Creole families to settle St. Landry Parish. His musical roots are firmly planted alongside the great zydeco pioneers like Chenier, Delafose, Chavis, Ardoin and that other Simien, Rockin Sidney, to name a few. He counts himself one of the fortunate few who hail from a generation with a direct link to these artists, some of whom mentored him as an emerging talent.

Dave Eggar vs. Dave Shenton

November 8, 2026
2:00 pm
Cantrell Hall Banquet Room
Dave & Dave: The Battle of the Daves is a genre-bending musical performance that combines refined virtuosity with sharp, understated humor, inspired by the late Victor Borge. The two performers, Dave Shenton (piano/violin) and Dave Eggar (cello/piano), engage in a dynamic musical exchange, each pushing the other to greater heights of creativity and skill, resulting in a hilarious, virtuosic & original concert experience. At the end of each performance the audience ultimately crowns a winner, following an evening of breathtaking musicianship, clever comedy, and a Star Wars inspired duel. Cellist and five-time Grammy-nominated composer Dave Eggar has appeared as a featured solo performer at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Barbican Center London, the Sydney Opera House, Aspen Music Festival, Lincoln Center and more. His mission to “not just cross over, but to cross through” multiple genres of music is apparent with all of his releases. Whether it’s classical, reggae, bluegrass, jazz, pop, or world music, he finds a common voice within his musical vocabulary and introduces it with his own unique and imaginative vision. Dave Shenton is a violinist, pianist, composer, arranger, and producer whose artistry transcends genres and boundaries. With a rare versatility and unmatched musicianship, he brings passion, precision, and creativity to every performance and project. Whether on stage, in the studio, or behind the score, David’s work reflects a mastery that has captivated audiences and collaborators around the globe.
