Today, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin hosted a roundtable discussion on spurring economic growth in Southwest Virginia at UVA Wise.

The listening session was one of several visits Youngkin made Wednesday to the region to hear from community leaders on a broad range of key economic, health and workforce issues.

“Today was a great opportunity to hear directly from local, community and business leaders on economic development and growth opportunities in the region. My administration will continue to be a partner in fostering growth in Southwest Virginia,” Governor Glenn Youngkin said.

Participants at UVA Wise’s David J. Prior Convocation Center  included community and business leaders from Lee, Wise, Scott, Dickenson Counties and the City of Norton as well as UVA Wise Chancellor Donna P. Henry, Del. Israel O’Quinn and Del. Terry Kilgore.

“Governor Youngkin continues to be a strong advocate for Southwest Virginia. He recognizes the great potential that exists in our growing region, and we appreciate his support for our increased growth and the diversification of the region’s economy,” Kilgore said.

Discussions centered around an exchange of ideas on ways to stimulate continued growth and bolster opportunities in far Southwest Virginia.

“We were honored that Governor Youngkin selected UVA Wise to kick off his Southwest Virginia listening tour and it was our pleasure to host the Governor and all of the esteemed invitees who contributed to a lively and important conversation on building an even stronger and more vibrant region,” Chancellor Henry said. “UVA Wise plays a critical role in providing an exceptional education contributing to the region’s skilled workforce as well as supporting strategic community and economic development initiatives in far Southwest Virginia. We are grateful to have been part of this roundtable and look forward to finding solutions and opportunities to move this region forward.”
