John Mark Adrian earned his Ph.D. in English Literature from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2005.  He teaches a variety of courses at UVA Wise, ranging from freshman composition to literature surveys to upper level major courses.  He particularly enjoys developing interdisciplinary special topics courses, including Hamlet and Its Influence; the Garden in Western Culture; London in Literature; the Italian Renaissance;  and Castles, Cathedrals, and Country Houses.  In conjunction with the last 3 courses, he has led a number of short-term study abroad trips to both England and Italy.  Adrian is also the director of the College’s Peake Honors Program.  In his free time, he enjoys travel, reading, antiquing, playing intramural soccer, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
