Transfer Student Admissions Criteria

In order to transfer to UVa-Wise, applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.2 or higher. Applicants with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.2 will be reviewed by the Admissions committee and, if admitted, may be subject to provisional status. Students with a less than 2.0 GPA are typically not admitted to the college. Transfer students are only accepted from accredited institutions.

To be eligible for transfer student admission at UVa-Wise, you must be in good standing with and able to return to the college or university you last attended and at which you were enrolled full-time in a degree program.

An Overview of the Transfer Student Application Process

All transfer students seeking admission to UVa-Wise must submit:

  • Completed application
  • $25 nonrefundable application fee
  • Official transcript from any college you’ve attended (even for just one course)
  • Applicable transfer student forms

If you have attempted fewer than 30 transferable hours of course work, you’ll also need to meet our freshman admission requirements and submit official high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores. Note that we do waive the SAT/ACT scores requirement for applicants who are 25 years of age or older.

Make sure to complete the transfer application process at least 30 days prior to your anticipated date of enrollment to allow sufficient time for evaluation and admission.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

Once transfer students are admitted, we will conduct an evaluation of all courses completed at previous colleges. Only courses equivalent to University of Virginia or UVa-Wise courses are eligible for transfer credit. We will award transfer credit for courses with grades of C- or better (or CR/P for courses designated credit/no credit or pass/fail). A maximum of 62 semester hours earned from a two-year college may count towards graduation at UVa-Wise.
