Application Process
The Fall 2026 Housing Application is a manual-style system in which students enrolled in at least 6 credit hours, returning and new, request housing on campus for the upcoming academic year. Students will manually select their roommate and room. If you have interest in living on campus at UVA Wise or are bound by the first-year residency requirement, you must apply through this process.
With the growth UVA Wise has experienced in previous years, housing demand may exceed supply for Fall 2026. Some students who apply for a contract may not receive one. If additional space becomes available, we will offer it on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Eligibility
Students registered for at least 6 credit hours are eligible to reside in the residence halls. Should a student need to drop below 6 hours per semester, a student must seek permission from the Director of Residence Life or Designee.
How to Apply
- Using your UVA Wise credentials, log onto my.uvawise.edu.
- Click on the “Students” tab at the top.
- Scroll down to the “Residence Life” box.
- Select the “Fall 2026-2027” Session from the drop down menu.
- Select “View housing application.”
- Fill out the six tabs and submit.
Upon successful submission of your application, an email is sent to your @uvawise.edu account. It is your responsibility to keep a copy of this email for your records. Residence Life will also receive a viewable copy of this email confirmation.
Roommate Groups
On Wednesday, March 18, 2026 or Friday, April 3, 2026, (corresponding to the returning or incoming student timeline) the roommate portal will open. To request a roommate, you will complete the following:
- Using your UVA Wise credentials, log onto my.uvawise.edu.
- Click on the “Students” tab at the top.
- Scroll down to the “Residence Life box.
- Select the “Fall 2026-2027” Session from the dropdown menu.
- Select “View roommate request.”
- Type the name or student ID number of your preferred roommate.
- Your roommate request will be sent and the other student must approve the request.
If your intended roommate for the upcoming year isn’t appearing in the roommate portal, here’s how to troubleshoot:
- Verify the Housing Application: Make sure they’ve completed their housing application. You can only request someone as a roommate if both parties have submitted the initial form.
- Check for Existing Roommate Groups: They may have already joined a roommate group. Reach out to your peers if you no longer plan to room together.
- Confirm Applicant Group: They may not be in the same applicant group as you (e.g., if you are a new freshman/transfer, and your intended roommate already lives on campus, you won’t be able to select them).
- If the student you would like to room with for Spring 2026 already lives on campus, you must email wisehousing@uvawise.edu with your request.
- Use Their Student ID: To ensure you’re selecting the correct person, enter their student ID number (found on their Cavs Card/my.uvawise.edu portal). This will help avoid any mix-ups with students who have similar names or typos.
If you prefer to have a random roommate, you will not complete this step.
Application Numbers / Timeslots
After submitting your housing application, you will be assigned an application number, which determines your timeslot for room selection. The room selection portal opens Monday, March 23, 2026 or Monday, April 6, 2026. Submitting your application early increases your chances of receiving a lower application number.
If you miss your designated timeslot, you can still select a room, though you will lose the advantage of selecting during your original time. You may log in and choose a room at any time after your scheduled timeslot.
Room Selection
During your designated timeslot, or your roommate group’s timeslot, you will complete the following:
- Using your UVA Wise credentials, log onto my.uvawise.edu.
- Click on the “Students” tab at the top.
- Scroll down to the “Residence Life” box.
- Select the “Fall 2026-2027” Session from the drop-down menu.
- Select “View room selection.”
- Select “Browse rooms.”
- Choose your room from the available options.
Please note that if a specific room or building is not available for selection, it has likely already been filled by other students. Be sure to choose from the remaining available options.
