UVA Honors Annual Sexual Assault Awareness Week Hosts 10th Annual Take Back the Night March

In an effort to educate students and the community, UVA Wise is hosting a week of programming to increase sexual assault awareness and prevention April 3-7.

The College will also sponsor its 10th annual Take Back The Night march on Wednesday, April 5th, at Cantrell Hall.

Tabitha Smith, UVA Wise associate vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion and Title IX coordinator, said April is sexual assault awareness month and the college organizes a wide variety of workshops and informational sessions to help students navigate their own personal safety. The events are open and free to the public.

The TBTN march is the oldest international movement to stand against sexual violence in all forms, Smith said.

“It is moving that the College will be acknowledging its 10th annual TBTN week,” said Smith. “Dating and domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of relationship abuse can happen at any time, in any place, to anyone. Our institutional value to education our community on respect and to support continues to be unwavering.”
