Today, the University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVA Wise) welcomed new and returning students to Convocation, an annual ceremony celebrating the beginning of a new academic year and welcoming the newest class of Highland Cavaliers to campus.

UVA Wise Chancellor Donna P. Henry welcomed the Class of 2030 and encouraged students to embrace the opportunities, challenges and experiences that will shape their college years.

“The start of a new academic year is my favorite, but it ranks right up there with Commencement. Today, I invite you to look forward to your commencement ceremony. The opportunities are endless, so take advantage of all that UVA Wise, our faculty, staff and your colleagues offer to you,” said Henry.

The Class of 2030 will begin their UVA Wise journey as members of a community grounded in academic excellence, leadership, service and the traditions of the College. Throughout their time at UVA Wise, students will be encouraged to explore new interests, build meaningful relationships and make a lasting impact on campus and throughout the region.

Chancellor Henry encouraged students with some final thoughts, “Thank you for choosing UVA Wise and placing your trust in us. This is your UVA Wise experience. Make the best of it! Go Cavs Go!”

Following the ceremony, students were invited to participate in the student activities fair where campus organizations, clubs and community partners showcased opportunities for students to become involved at UVA Wise and throughout the region.

As the class of 2030 begins its journey at UVA Wise, students enter a community where they can discover their passions, develop as leaders and create experiences that will become part of the College’s lasting Cavalier tradition.
