UVA Wise Earns Top Virginia Rankings for Value and Affordability
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVA Wise) has earned top ranking for affordability and access in the 2027 Niche college rankings, ranking first in Virginia for best value colleges and number one in Virginia for best colleges with no application fee.
UVA Wise also ranks 20th among public National Liberal Arts Colleges in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.
The recognitions highlight UVA Wise’s continued commitment to providing students with an affordable, high-quality education while expanding academic programs and opportunities designed to prepare graduates for careers and continued study.
Avery Wells, a senior at UVA Wise and vice president of student government association says, “Most of our students will graduate debt free. It’s a great opportunity for students like me to grow and become an asset to our community.”
Affordability remains a central part of the College’s mission. UVA Wise has eliminated application fees for all domestic students and enrollment deposits for all students, removing two upfront financial barriers for prospective Cavaliers.
The College has also expanded its Within Reach program, which now covers tuition and fees for eligible Virginia students whose families earn $80,000 or less annually.
UVA Wise has kept increases in tuition, fees, room and board below higher education inflation rates in recent years.
“Our commitment to affordability is about more than keeping costs down. It is about making sure students have access to the education, experiences and support they need to reach their goals in life,” says Chancellor Donna P. Henry.
UVA Wise is also expanding its academic offerings to meet the needs of students, employers and the region. New and growing programs include graduate offerings in technology management and data analytics, nursing and education, including concentrations in library media and special education.
The College’s growth in enrollment has accompanied these efforts. As more students choose UVA Wise, the College is also working to expand housing capacity and academic facilities to support continued growth.
The Niche recognition adds to a growing list of national recognition for UVA Wise and reflects the College’s focus on providing an accessible, affordable education while preparing students to contribute to the communities and region they call home.
