CAVS Card

Your official UVA Wise ID card

In addition to being your official college ID, the Cavs Card gives you access to a variety of campus services, acting as your: 

  • Meal plan card
  • Debit card (for campus vending machines, dining dollars, Bookstore)
  • Library card
  • Laundry card in campus residence halls
  • Electronic key for residence halls and other designated areas
  • Athletic pass (for all regular season home events)

How do I get a CAVS card?

Residential Students

  • Submit your own photo: Cards with submitted photo will be available at Move-In if photo is submitted within 3 business days of your move-in appointment.
  • Cards will otherwise be available for pickup at Mail Services beginning on Tuesday, August 19.

Commuter Students

  • Submit your own photo: Cards with submitted photo will be available within 3 business days after photo is submitted -- for freshmen at Expedition and other new students during Welcome Week.
  • Cards will otherwise be available for pickup at Mail Services beginning on Tuesday, August 19.

How do I submit my photo?

Students & employees have the option to submit a photo for their id. Photos may be emailed to mail.idservices@uvawise.edu. All photos must follow these guidelines:

  • Color photo with white/off-white background, take within last 6 months
  • Clear image of your face centered in photo (no social media filters)
  • No sunglasses; eyeglasses may be worn, but ensure no flash
  • No caps/hats, headbands, masks, etc.

Please protect your card as you would your driver’s license or credit card. A $15.00 fee will be charged for replacement of this card if it is lost or damaged. Lending of this card or failure to present it upon request by a College official is a violation of College policy. The fraudulent possession of another person’s card may result in the confiscation of the card and/or College disciplinary action.

Changes to the Cavs card terms and conditions will apply to all cards and supersede those in effect at the time the card was issued.

How do I find my card ID number?

Your ID number appears in the format 000020626201 under your name on your card.

Your ID is found by removing the four initial zeros and the last two digits.

What is the difference between Declining Balance and Dining Dollars?

  • Declining Balance: Offers the most flexibility. Funds in this account may be used anywhere the Cavs Card is accepted: all food service locations (including concession stands), bookstore, laundry, vending, and the campus post office.
  • Dining Dollars: Funds in this account can be used at all food service locations, including concession stands. The benefit of this account is receiving promotions for dining from Chartwells, our dining services provider.

How do I report a lost or stolen card?

Email mail.idservices@uvawise.edu to report the card missing. This will immediately disable the card, rendering it useless for campus dining and all campus declining balance usage (bookstore, laundry, etc.). A $15 fee will be charged for a card replacement if it is lost or damaged. Lending the card or failure to present it upon request by a College official is a violation of College policy. The fraudulent possession of another person’s card may result in the confiscation of the card and/or College disciplinary action.

Are there any fees for using the Cavs Card?

The only fees involved with the Cavs Card are in making a deposit and obtaining a refund. There is a $2 processing fee for each deposit made online, in person, by mail or over the phone. There is also a $10 processing fee for account refunds.

There is no fee for cash depositing funds via the Value Port terminal on the 4th Floor of the Student Center.

How can I get a refund of my account balance?

Email Amanda Hughes (agh4rg@uvawise.edu) with your name, ID number, and current address and your reason for requesting a refund (recent graduation, termination of enrollment, etc.). There is a $10 processing fee for all refunds. 

Refunds can only be processed for account with a balance of $20 or more. You have 60 days to request a refund after leaving UVA Wise.

What else should I know?

  • All meal plans are purchased in the Cashier’s Office and must be paid for at time of sale.
  • There is a $15 charge for your replacement card.
  • Cards are made at Campus Mail Services on the 4th floor of the Slemp Student Center.
  • Cards must not be defaced in any way.
  • Cards expire at graduation or on a student’s withdrawal from the College.
