Rose promoted to admissions director

Chris Dearth, vice chancellor for enrollment management at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, announced this month that veteran admissions professional Jamie Rose has been promoted to director of admissions.

Rose began her work in admissions fourteen years ago. She has served as associate director for the past several years. An alumnae of UVA Wise, Rose brings her knowledge of the region and the College to the forefront when guiding prospective students and their families on campus tours and on recruiting visits to high schools in adjoining states.

“As we continue to increase the admissions operation and expand our recruitment area, having an experienced and knowledgeable director of admissions in place is imperative to our future success,” Dearth said. “New initiatives that have been put in place have already started to move the needle, and elevating Jamie to this role will ensure that we take advantage of this positive momentum.”

Dearth and his admissions staff have seen a flurry of increased applicants to UVA Wise following new initiatives such as the Within Reach program that offers full tuition to qualified Virginia families making $40,000 or less annually. A reduced tuition program eligible to residents living in the federal Appalachian Regional Commission areas is also sparking interest. The ARC region spans an area from New York to Mississippi, and UVA Wise is in the middle of that region.

“Jamie brings a wealth of knowledge and a dedication to the institution that will serve the College well in her new role,” Dearth said. “I look forward to working with Jamie in her new position. I have no doubt that Jamie and the admissions team will continue to push UVA Wise towards greater heights.”
