Orientation FAQs

Is Orientation required?
Yes. All new undergraduate students (and readmitted students who have been away for one or more years) are expected to complete the Orientation process, including attending an Orientation session. However, Orientation is optional for family/guests.

Is there a fee?
There is no fee for Orientation. 

How long is Orientation?
In-person summer Orientation sessions are approximately four hours with check-in beginning at 8 am. Virtual summer Orientation sessions follow a modified schedule and begin at 9 am. Students and registered guests will receive additional details before their session. A final schedule will be provided at check-in.

Can I bring guests?
Students may register up to two guests to accompany them at their Orientation session. If you need to add or update guest information after signing up for Orientation, please email orientation@uvawise.edu.

How do I get started with the Orientation process?

When do I sign up for Orientation?
After students complete the Cav Module (see the New Student Checklist), students receive an invitation to signup for Orientation in their applicant portal. 

What should I wear?
Dress is casual. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There will be a lot of walking! Check the weather in case you need an umbrella or jacket.

What should I bring?
No supplies needed! All materials will be provided, including a bag, schedule and nametag for students and their registered guests. Students and guests attending Orientation may also claim a free meal ticket to enjoy lunch in the main dining hall at the conclusion of Orientation.
