The University of Virginia's College at Wise is pleased to announce that Michelle Rozen, Ph.D., a renowned researcher and expert in the psychology of change, will deliver the keynote address at the Tenth Annual Southwest Virginia Economic Forum on May 22.

Inés Latapia Izquierdo, a business administration major and student-athlete from Zaragoza, Spain, has been named the 2025 student commencement speaker at UVA Wise. She is recognized for her meaningful contributions to student life and academic excellence.

The David J. Prior Convocation Center is the first-place students visit when they kick of their academic careers and the last place they visit when they graduate.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 10 in the David J. Prior Convocation Center in Wise, Virginia, and will begin at 10 a.m.

The gift will be matched with a $500,000 investment from the University of Virginia’s Bicentennial Funds, bringing its total impact to $1.5 million. The gift also provides a leadership endowment to support the College’s LEAD Southwest Virginia program.

This year’s theme, “Meeting the Moment, Shaping the Future,” will celebrate the region’s achievements while focusing on efforts that will create future opportunities.

Justyn Colón Rodríguez, a sophomore at UVA Wise was chosen to be Chancellor for a Day for 2025. Colón Rodríguez is a Spanish major with a secondary education minor and plans to be a Spanish teacher when graduating. He is also a Smith scholar at UVA Wise.

Through his unwavering commitment to education and leadership, Larry Greear has left a meaningful legacy in Wise County schools, positively influencing generations of students, educators and the community.

Meet Kandee Wallace, a 2014 alumna who majored in art with a minor in business administration. Today, she is a freelance artist and the owner of Wallace Dance Academy in Coeburn, Virginia.
