UVA Wise is pleased to announce that Chief Deputy Attorney General of Virginia Charles H. “Chuck” Slemp III will serve as the College’s keynote speaker at its Commencement Ceremony on May 11, 2024.

The LOVE sign is the result of a RALLY SWVA grant project, in collaboration with the Town of Wise, the College, the Wise County Career-Technical Center and Union High School.

The Crockett Award, established in 1995 by then-Clinch Valley College, is named after Samuel R. Crockett Jr. who, in 1954, as the UVA extension representative in Southwest Virginia, was instrumental in creating a division of the University in Wise.

“A Region on the Move” is the 2024 theme for the conference, which will be a hybrid event that participants can attend online or in person. The event begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.

The former College library is now a 28,530 square-foot, state-of-the-art nursing education facility. Nursing students began taking classes in the new building in mid-March.

The project honors a major industry of the region the College calls home. Students participating preserved the past by scanning in newspaper articles and old photographs, taking photographs of artifacts, and becoming fully immersed in local history.

Upcoming freshman Ethan Cloud from Wise, Va., was delighted to be a part of the day. “Today has made me so excited that I wish I could get my schedule made and start tomorrow.”

Students crowded around tables of regional and national employers to learn about all the exciting employment opportunities available to them.

Inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame in January, Rash is an internationally recognized, award-winning author of eight novels including the PEN/Faulker finalist and New York Times bestselling novel, Serena.

The University of Virginia College at Wise announced this week that an endowed scholarship has been established in honor of Gage Clark, a UVA Wise student who passed away unexpectedly on March 23, 2023.

UVA Wise celebrated the annual tradition of Chancellor for a Day, an event that gives students the opportunity to spend a day in the life of the leader of the College.
