This past spring, UVA Wise students studied abroad in Ireland and Nepal and this summer in Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Towns of Cleveland, Dungannon, Honaker, and Richlands, along with Appalachian Sustainable Development, Breaks Interstate Park, Friends of the Buchanan County Library, and Mountain Kids Inc., have been awarded a total of $100,000 for projects.

The Wise Guys is one of 25 bands set to play at the Gettysburg Brass Band Festival, which hosts hundreds of musicians for a two-day event celebrating brass bands. Last year, the event attracted 4,000 attendees to the historic town of Gettysburg, Penn.

Earlier this year, Josephine Rodriguez began her work at the U. S. National Science Foundation as a Program Director in the Division of Undergraduate Education. It’s a rotating position through the Intergovernmental Personnel Act for two years.

Last Saturday, 14 students made history as they walked across the stage at David J. Prior Convocation Center to become the first graduates of UVA Wise’s Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program.

About 230 graduates crossed the stage, earning either a bachelor of arts, bachelor of science or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. And for the first time in the College’s history, 14 students were awarded their Master of Education degree.

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise received nearly 6,400 applications for fall 2024 admission. That’s almost double last year’s number which set a record for the past two decades.

UVA Wise students scanned hotel guestroom baseboards, lampshades and bedding during a first-of-its kind hospitality experiential learning project.

Bryson Roberson, a Napoleon Hill Scholar, will deliver the student address at UVA Wise’s upcoming Commencement, where his former internship supervisor will deliver the keynote.
